CS Conference Status

I always hear:  “this conference is good because it has a high rejection rate.” Now someone proved those comments are wrong.

In the article, authors made a comparison of several impact factors using different data sources, like Google Scholar, DBLP, ISI Knowledge Base, etc. They show that the assumption of high rejection rates means quality and high citations, is wrong.

They also point out, a fact that is worrying. In computer science most authors worry about submitting to a conference and letting the journals as a second option. The conferences offer instant feedback, or at least faster than the one you get from a journal. However, this journal-avoiding behavior is making the impact factor of CS journals very low in comparison to other areas. I always hear other colleges talking about high impact factors journals in their fields, while my high ones look like their low ones. 😕

It is an interesting article. I encourage you to read it. What do you think? Do we need a better way to measure how good a conference and a journal is?
